Ethyl Esters or Triglycerides?

The eternal debate concerning the efficacy of producing omega-3 fatty acids in ethyl esters versus triglycerides form is building up once again. Although ethyl esters have been proven time and time again to be perfectly safe, some manufacturers (of the triglyceride form) are misleading the public by claiming that they pose a health risk.

Some suggest that ethyl esters are forbidden in Scandinavia and soon will be in the United Kingdom. This is simply not correct and is highlighted by the fact that several food supplements and medicines that are based on ethyl esters are currently available in these markets and will continue to be in the future.

In addition there are many erroneous claims being made regarding the absorption rate of the two types of omega-3 fats. Several scientific studies reveal that post-24 hour absorption rates is identical between them and that ethyl esters may be the preferred form in the prevention of heart failure.
