Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to increase the level of EPA in my body ?

Fish oil is a natural nutritional source that contains EPA and DHA.
Nutritional products that are rich in omega-3 are: fatty fish; green leafy vegetables, and certain nuts and seeds (for instance, walnuts and flax seed).

  • Vegetarian sources only contain the basic omega-3 fatty acid, named ALA. This is the basic material the body uses to produce EPA and DHA. At least, that is the accepted theory. In practice, however, the body does not convert alpha-linoleic acid to EPA and DHA very effectively; only a small amount of alpha-linoleic acid is converted to EPA and DHA. This is why a direct supply of EPA and DHA is needed.
  • Fatty fish, more so than fish oil, contains low levels of ALA acid but high levels of EPA and DHA.
